Windows 10 Bluetooth Serial Port
Bluetooth on Windows 10 allows you to quickly connect a large array of wireless devices to your computer (e.g. Speakers, mice, and keyboards). However, while devices should automatically reconnect when they’re in range, Bluetooth isn’t perfect and sometimes you’ll come across connectivity problems.
- But here I have apps stretching back to pre-2000 that send over Bluetooth's Serial Port Profile. And these still work fine on Windows 10. The Com port number is created by the Bluetooth driver.
- Most new computers do not have physical serial ports so connecting hardware, like GPS devices, needs to be done using another approach. One approach is Bluetooth. When connecting my GPS device to a computer, it uses Bluetooth. Then, through software, the GPS device is exposed as a series of four virtual COM ports (two sending, two receiving).
- It is only concerned with the more generic SPP (Serial Port Profile) which is based upon the RFCOMM profile. It was developed with a very old USB Bluetooth dongle and so should work with any Bluetooth dongle. This app is a simple Bluetooth Serial Universal Windows (Windows 10) test app.
We have published Airconsole LE drivers for Windows 10 (Creators edition) and later to support both native terminal (powershell) serial port access as well as virtual COM port creation from your Airconsole LE serial adaptor. These drivers allow you connect to serial devices from a Windows 10 PC using the bluetooth low energy Airconsole LE.
Note Airconsole LE does not support earlier versions of Windows at this stage. We also understand the install process is a little involved so will issue new drivers in the future to further stream line the install process.

Windows 10 for desktop editions (Home, Pro, Enterprise, and Education) and Windows 10 Mobile support the following Bluetooth versions:

Windows Server 2016 does not support Bluetooth.
